The Shak

The Client relocated from a large beachfront property developed over many years from the original family beach shack to this more sheltered & compact home designed around the principle of Shakkei.

This ancient Japanese concept is based on borrowing scenery and landscape from the surrounding area, in this case focussing views to the mature vegetation on adjoining properties until the new courtyard gardens become established.

Extensive high-level glazing allows views of native bushland treetops and open sky from within the open plan living area.

This also ensures a bright and airy interior maximising natural cross ventilation for cooling in the hot summer months.
