The Latest Trends In Swimming Pool Design

A swimming pool is a highly desirable feature on the wish list of many Australian homeowners. It’s also a significant investment, so it’s important to be aware of the latest features that you may wish to incorporate in the design of your new pool.

The inaugural Poolz State of the Market report for 2024  is based on data collated from 9000 homeowners looking to build a pool and highlights several key trends in Australian pool design.

It reveals that pools are shrinking, with 42% of recent sales being for plunge pools. This trend amid the current cost-of-living crisis is driven by the desire for more economical and compact pools that suit reduced budgets and smaller backyard spaces, especially in urban areas.

Whilst a traditional 8-10m long backyard pool costs upward of $50-60k, a 4-6m plunge pool is more likely to cost between $45 –55k.

The report also notes that concrete pools remain a strong preference, chosen by 52% of new pool buyers, while fibreglass pools are favoured by 48% of the market.

Additionally, the report emphasises the importance of pool heating which allows year-round use, and automated pool systems that allow digital devices to control heating, lighting and filtration. Pool covers are also a popular option to retain heat and conserve energy. These features are sought after by homeowners looking to maximise their pool usage and reduce maintenance efforts.

Designer pools are also in vogue with homeowners engaging their architects to seamlessly blend pools into their outdoor living areas. This integration creates a cohesive and functional space for entertaining and relaxation. Features like adjacent decking, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and comfortable seating areas enhance the overall appeal of the backyard, making it a perfect spot for gatherings and leisure.

In conclusion, plunge pools are an excellent way to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of outdoor spaces. The trends of eco-friendly designs, customization, urban-friendly sizes, wellness features, integration with outdoor living spaces, natural aesthetics, and smart technology are shaping the future of plunge pools in Australia. As more homeowners seek to create personal retreats within their homes, plunge pools will likely continue to be a popular choice.

Whether you’re looking to cool off, relax, or simply enjoy a beautiful addition to your backyard, the versatility and appeal of plunge pools make them an ideal option for Australian homes.
