“Entry to the Santai is through a pair of magnificent, 4m-high carved doors from where you step into a large, serene reception area with a high, timber raked ceiling… It’s a ceiling that is typical of most Balinese resorts but would be prohibitively expensive to reproduce here.. but John has the answer, explaining there are ways of getting the wonderful appearance without having to blow the budget. You have to build to a budget and that’s where clever designers come in. The lobby provides your first impression so you have to give it that wow factor. It has a very open appeal with lots of natural light and water features.”
